3 Things to Get, 3 Things to Give
3 Things to Get, 3 Things to Give
Second installment! Check out my first list from last month for both context and other cool ideas.
Without further preamble, let’s get into it…
3 Things to Get
1. Brain exercise: I have a deep concern for what happens to our brains as we get older. We talk a lot about keeping our bodies health, but what about our brains? Our brains are fascinating miracles, but they do deteriorate with time. Impulse is an app I started using a few weeks ago to increase focus and clarity. The studies on brain fog post-covid are just one more reason to pay attention to working out our minds. Not only have I been using this app, I have gotten my family into it - from my 12 year old niece to my 73 year old dad. Fun for all. 2. Instant Library: Read more! As an avid reader, book lover, and English Literature major - it took me a long time to convert to a digital book reader. A long overseas trip for work years ago forced me to concede because I couldn’t pack enough books, and I haven’t looked back. The Kindle Oasis is the best because it is waterproof, which I have tested in the bathtub and in a hot tub.

3. Untangled lights: If you celebrate Christmas like me, you probably also have a struggle every single year with tangled Christmas lights. I wrap them around hangers and still - they are broken, burnt out, and in knots somehow. This year, I decide to give my future self a gift and bought this clever storage. When I take the decorations down this year, I will be mindful and hope I am rewarded when I take them back out next year! Link: https://amzn.to/3G3iUBk
3 Things to Give
Compliments: Gosh, didn’t that woman at the checkout have pretty eyes? Wasn’t that customer service rep upbeat and cheerful? That joke your kid just made was pretty funny! We all have heard the advice, “If you have nothing nice to say, keep your mouth shut!” However, I’d suggest the opposite is just as useful - or maybe even better - advice, “If you have something nice to say, make sure you say it!”
Matching donations: Many companies have a program where they will match, or partially match, employee donations. Now is a great time to look into it, in case it is based on calendar year and you only have a few weeks left to reward a charity with that extra 2022 cash.
Expired clutter: Pantry, medicine cabinet, linen closet, nail polish drawer. Throw it away! You’d be surprised how may garbage bags you can fill of expired crap taking up space in your home, even if you time box your cleaning activity to one hour. You’ll be surprised how good that one hour will make you feel - maybe even better than watching just one more episode, or eating one more pie slice. (Remember to dispose of things like medicines carefully, and don’t forget how much you can recycle!)
